The Natural Park of Aiguamolls de l'Empordà

The lower part of Palau-saverdera is integrated into the Natural Park of Aiguamolls de l’Empordà. Formerly, this land was under the water of a great lake, but man transformed this underwater area into fields suitable for agriculture and pastures. That opened many of the canals which today still exist, like the canal Madrel, which marks the limit with Castelló d’Empùries. You can park your car in the centre of les Torroelles (at the restaurant Els Aiguamolls) and walk to the pond of Vilaüt. If you go at the right time, you can see flamingos, storks, martinets, herons, egrets and many other birds.

The Natural Park of cap de Creus

The mountain of Palau-saverdera is within the natural park of cap de Creus. If you go on one of our mountain hikes you will discover: a spectacular waterfall, pools, cork trees, patches of chestnuts, numerous huts and dry stone terraces and four sectors with megalithic monuments: in Mas Isach, next to the glen of Mas Ventós (the cork trees), in the sector of la Fontasia and in the sector of la Febrosa. All the hikes are sign posted and clear of vegetation. If you wish to carry out an excursion, there is additional information at the Townhall.
